Idaho is one of my all time favorite songs I have ever written. It is also particularly relevant and on my mind lately. Let’s take a closer look at Idaho! I’ve also included some Idaho inspired journal prompts, and a picture I have of the handwritten lyrics - just for fun.

Let’s do it!

it’s august but i’m making Pinterest boards

with snow on the window and holly on doors

I debated for a long, long time about keeping “Pinterest” in the lyrics, wondering if it was cheap lyricism. I considered changing it to “vision” boards. I kept Pinterest, and I probably always will.

Kicking it off, there’s an immediate dissonance with reality. There is reality (August) and the ideal (Christmas time). In August, I know that Christmas will come - but it seems very far away and it feels silly to be planning Christmas decor before school starts. In the same way that Idaho centers around singleness and waiting for something that could, and probably is, very far away.
