Some of the most anticipated and exciting moments of my life have been standing in a circle in the baggage claim of the airport, taking sips out of someone else’s water bottle.
My best friend lives in Oregon, and so to see each other one of us has to fly to the opposite coast. It quickly became a tradition that when my best friend flew in, she would fill her water bottle in the airport in Oregon and not touch it until she touched down where I was. The two of us, and our friend at the time, would giggle and greet each other before quickly demanding that us East coasters get a sip of “Oregon Water”.
This was the song I let myself be mad, sound mad - sound mad enough to look bad. In that anger, I found some of my personal favorite lyrics to come out of this heartbreak.
You’ll live forever unjustified.
Oregon Water is about the bitterness that forms in the aftermath. It is the cold shoulder, the white hot rage, and the sting of watching someone you care about become someone you’ve never met.
She’ll never drink Oregon Water. But I’ll never drink Oregon Water with her.
(Anger doesn’t take long to melt into sadness.)
I love you because you exist,
Faith
