This Time I Mean It - a song and a story

Listen to This Time I Mean It or download it for later

Women are often given the same criticism when it comes to songwriting, “you only write about breakups”, “you only write about relationships”, so on and so forth. I wish with all my heart that this song was a breakup song - there is far more dignity in that. This song is about walking away from the “will they, won’t they” situation that kept my head underwater for years.

Hope is one of the most beautiful and important things we can have when we place it right. Hope can also be a quick way to wind up taking the train to the end of the track. This Time I Mean It is about hitting the end of the track, and choosing to walk back home. It is meant to say, “This isn’t happening, and if it was, it wouldn’t be good for me.”

Everyone in my life had their opinion on the two of us, whether we were destined to end up together when it’s all said and done, or we were “doomed by the narrative”, or we were, put simply, absolutely terrible for each other.

I don’t know what my opinion is. I’m not sure if I ever will. Maybe it was love, maybe it was limerence, maybe I was being led on. Depending on which song I’m writing (there are so many about this boy - it is nauseating), I think it’s been all three. Whichever way you spin it, the song remains the same. It’s over. I mean it.

Thank you for listening, and if you’ve read this far…a little announcement for you before I send out a dedicated post. Idaho is out May 2! Here’s the presave link (PLEASE presave it, it makes a huge difference): Click Here!

I love you because you exist,

Faith
